IKEA announces store in University area

First store in Carolinas for popular home furnishings chain

IKEA, the home furnishings retailer, announced today plans to open a store in the Charlotte area.The store will be located at I-85 and City Boulevard in the University City area.
A news release from the company, issued late Tuesday, said construction on the Charlotte store could begin as early as this fall, with a possible opening in spring 2009. It would be the first IKEA store in the Carolinas.
The closest IKEA stores to Charlotte are in Atlanta and Washington. The retailer is popular for its contemporary, European-style furniture
